24 hours in Bahrain

So school needed to send us on a Visa run so last Wednesday afternoon I had my Head come into my classroom and give me a ticket and hotel reservations for the following day (oh you have to love Kuwait and IPE!) After a nightmare at the airport, trying to get into Bahrain is a complete pain in the arse unless you've been there before, you have to have like a background check. It took us about 2 hours to get through, and that was pretty quick! However right next to the Visa area there's a off licence. And yes, it had alcohol! I'm pretty sure I've never been so happy to see a bottle of Yellow Tail! Yes it was overpriced, but after 3 months of homebrew or no alcohol (it's better to stay off alcohol than drink the homebrew!) I'm pretty sure I would have paid double for it! Now the rest of that night is a massive blur of random Arab clubs and far too much tequila, but the next day we got to see Bahrain. It's lovely! The Bahrain World Trade Centre is possibly one of my favourite buildings ever. It has wind turbines in the middle of it! Brilliant architecture! The buildings in Bahrain were stunning, the skyline's just beautiful. We spent most of the Friday lying on a patch of grass feeling sorry for ourselves and admiring the sea and the buildings. Then it was back to chilly Kuwait (it's mid-20's now and it's cold!) and another day of recovering!
The Year 3 concert is looming, we had our first whole year run through today and it went pretty well, lots of compliments. I'm proud of my un-coordinated, tone deaf class. They've worked their socks off!
I'm coming down with some horrible bug that's hitting the rest of the Year 3 team, so we're all snuffling and croaky.

Here're some of the pictures from Bahrain.

Half Term

I'm a bit tired after the excitement of today so I'll just post photos of the best bits of half term so far (ignoring the fact there's only 2 days left)

Then today was a trip to Failaka Island.

Coffee

After school, every day since I can remember, my dad would come in and make a pot of coffee, have a cup and a biscuit and then get on with the rest of the day. Then when I got old enough to be home first I'd make the coffee, have a cup with him and then get on with whatever needed to be done. These days coming into the flat after all the crap of the day, putting on a cup of coffee, drinking it with a biscuit and then getting on with whatever jobs I need to do is the one thing that's keeping me sane. Because for those few minutes until my coffee pot's empty it's like being back at home, with my dadda having a cuppa to break up all the stuff that has to be done.

I think it's going to rain today...

The skies are cloudy and the wind and sea are rough. So this song's in my head. Love Norah Jones, especially live. Oh it reminds me of a wonderful gig in Luxembourg. Hope it's not raining with you. Enjoy.

Saturday Afternoon Walk

Today C and I had an afternoon wander down to the beach, it was a lot cooler than the last time we walked down!
I collected shells and tried really hard not to stand on hermit crabs, there are absolutely thousands of them! And the beach is just scattered with bits of coral as well. It's really lovely (when you ignore the building site next to it and the stench of the Gulf) and very nice to just get out of the flat and not be near people like you are at the Palms.
