So the 'naughty' boy in my class cartwheeled across the classroom today. It's taking a lot to remember Einstein's brilliant quote.

My equivalent of a Sunday evening.
So it's Saturday evening and everything's very relaxed in Kuwait. After a dinner of roast aubergine, pesto, goats cheese and cous cous it's chilling out with music, candles and Emma on my Kindle. Living on my own certainly has it's perks! I get to cook what I want, listen to what I want and sprawl out on the settee with a good book without feeling bad about it. I think I could definitely get used to this.

Hypermarkets and Arabic Eggs
Last night school organised a trip to the local Hypermarket. Hypermarkets will always be a novelty for me, especially after living in Ambleside where the shop was about as big as my flat. I love Hypermarkets, you can literally get everything (apart from candles and coleslaw it turns out) and last night my shopping ranged from a printer to some Pakistani mangos. It was brilliant. I also picked up a coffee maker, which is my new best friend.
I got a little over excited about the Arabic and French coffee. Well, I got a little over excited about the whole thing. I think I class as a grown up now that I have a coffee maker.
Another highlight (you can tell i've not been doing much outside of school!) was realising that my eggs had Arabic writing on them. I know, it's to be expected, but seriously I got far too excited about these eggs!
I'm hoping that going to Church tomorrow will give me something slightly more exciting to write about! I mean you hardly want to hear about crappy children and marking books until all hours of the night!

My Flat
A terribly exciting post coming up!!
I rearranged my flat this evening after I'd finished marking writing assessments (dire!) and wanted to show off my hard work. My thinking is that I'll be able to have the windows open and use my balcony when it gets a bit cooler. High 40s isn't a good temperature for the windows to be open!
So here are my efforts. The colours in this flat leave a lot to be desired, but it's home for now.
The view from the door. With my massive tv!!
Yes, the sofa really is that colour!
This is to motivate me to do my work at my desk instead of spreading books across my sofa!

Where did 2 weeks go?!
I can't believe I've been out
here nearly two weeks already! It's absolutely flown by!
School's been keeping me busy, even when I'm not in school
there're trips to the Souks and meals out. It's brilliant. I'll try and take
some photos of the souks the next time I'm there, but they are all becoming
very westernised, which is a shame. I had visions of Souks like the ones in
Istanbul (well, pictures I've seen of Istanbul) but it's all very modernised
here. However there is a brilliant little food place at the entrance of the Old
Souk. Gorgeous Lebanese food that's dirt cheap. It was probably the best
meal I've had since I've been out here. And the juices they make here really
make you forget that you'd normally have a beer or glass of wine with your dinner.
My current favourite is lemon and mint. It's incredible.
School's taken us the the biggest shopping mall in Kuwait a
couple of times as well. It's called the Avenues and I'm pretty sure you could
do your week's quota of exercise just by walking around it it's that big!
There's an Ikea and Carrefour and everything from Zara and Topshop to an
electronic superstore. It's just incredible! My friend, A, and I wandered round
in 40 + degree heat the other day trying to find a Kuwaiti coffee shop but
Starbucks has appeared to have taken over! However we did head to Marina and it
was beautiful!
However C and I did wander down to the beach last week. It
was beautiful, I wish I'd taken my camera! The walk there was interesting, I'm
pretty sure we walked through building sites and my flip flops will never be
the same again, but it was a brilliant walk and the beach was well worth it. It
was only a tiny beach behind a little shopping mall and next to what appeared
to be a building site, but it was just perfect! We paddled in the Gulf and
tried to avoid stepping on the millions of Hermit Crabs! The sea was so warm
and perfect. However walking for an hour (there and back) in 47 degree heat
wasn't completely pleasant! I had to have a cold bath when I got back it was that
hot!
School's brilliant, the year 3 team is brilliant and my class is
lovely! I can't wait to get stuck in and start teaching properly. The first day
was very much an introduction to the school, and getting to know the kids.
Which was lovely, but long and tiring! Last night I was just exhausted and fell
asleep watching I am Legend.
And that brings us up to date! It's a bit bizarre having my
weekend be Friday and Saturday, but I'm sure I'll get used to it!
Here's some pictures of the view from my lovely flat. Yes that blue stuff behind the high rises is the sea!
